 This photograph was taken on May 6th 1896 in Katherine Street, Croydon, Surrey. The occasion was the opening of the town hall by the Prince of Wales (later King George VII). Archives list Alfred James Kerrell as present as part of the Croydon Fire Brigade pictured in the foreground. I am not sure which fireman is Alfred though! Alfred was born in 1847 in Smith's Yard, High St., Croydon. His father was John Kerrell, a Coachsmith born in Mitcham. His mother was Elizabeth Britnell.
